Here are some examples of speeches to get you started thinking about what you could do for your speech.










Here are some tips on choosing a topic...

· Your task is to prepare a three minute speech on a topic (some ideas are listed below).
· Use cue card(s) for your notes.
· Try not to read your speech.

First decide on the purpose of your speech. For example is it to;
· Inform? – How I learnt to swim.
· Persuade? – What the swimming club can do for you.
· Entertain? – My classmates swimming techniques.
· Or a combination of the above.

Then prepare your speech.

· My favourite sport (or develop a statement, e.g., Netball is great exercise.)

· What should school really teach?

· My best holiday

· What I think of fast food like McDonalds’s or Burger King

Hamburger Form
  • Top of bun = appetising introduction.
  • Each layer of the bun = tasty aspect of your topic.
  • bottom of the bun = conclusion - holding the burger together.
